“Gamkas Kloof” is an isolated valley located eastern of Cape Town. It was colonized by farmers for the first time in the beginning of the 19th century. In 1962, Gamkas Kloof was finally connected to the outside world by a road, which made the local people leave this valley. The last inhabitant left the valley in 1991. What was left, was a beautiful deserted landscape showing pure naturalness, which was captured in this photograph by Frank Ellis.
